If you want to learn how to shoot and get comfortable handling guns, Valor Defense Academy is where you want to go. Kelsey, the instructor, was phenomenal and I learned so much in the two hour, one-on-one session.
I loved having a female instructor who could provide advice for petite-sized shooters - it made a huge difference for me. I left the lesson feeling genuinely excited to continue learning and shooting.
In the attached picture, you can see my shots before Kelsey led me through a shooting exercise (yellow balloons - shots all over the place) and after (green and purple balloons - tighter grouping and closer to the bullseye). The results speak for themselves.

If you are new to firearms and don't know where to start ( like I was), then Valor Defense Academy is the way to go. Kelsey is very knowledgeable and personable. I first signed up for the beginner / firearm introductory class, and that positive experience working with Kelsey, provided me with the confidence to move forward with gun ownership and a Texas LTC permit.

Booked a handgun lesson with Kelsey for my wife and I whilst on holiday. Kelsey met us at the range and was even 15mins early. My wife had never even held a gun before and was very nervous but Kelsey was excellent at taking her through the process and building her confidence. After the first round my wife wanted to run away but by the end of the lesson she was loving the range. Kelsey worked with me to help correct a low left issue and by the end of the lesson I was delighted with the improvement. Top instructor, very knowledgeable and a great experience. Don't hesitate to book.
Kelsey is a fantastic teacher. She coached both my wife and me in separate sessions. We both walked away feeling more confident and comfortable. She's attentive, watching for tiny mistakes in form, and clearly will adjust her teaching approach depending on the student's comfort level. If you book her, she will teach you the fundamentals in order to shoot accurately and safely in under 2 hours. Highly recommend!
If you want instant progress, Kelsey is basically a shooting cheat code! I took her class with my 13 year old son and the attached photo is his target after about 15 minutes of instruction and adjustment. He only got better as the session went on! Range officers stopped by to watch and make surprised noises. By the end, we were competing to hit 1 inch circles from 10 yards, and it wasn’t all that difficult at that point. Kelsey is extremely knowledgeable and fun. She explains the concepts of shooting in an extremely clear and straightforward manner, and she’s great with kids and adults alike. Taking her class was the best shooting-related decision I’ve ever made, and we will definitely take classes with her every time we visit Austin!
