Fantastic Range and Exceptional Staff! I just returned from ‘Smokin’ Barrel Gun Store and Shooting Range’ located in Simi Valley. This is one of the nicest indoor shooting ranges I’ve ever been to. The facility is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with excellent safety standards and a great overall setup. A special shout-out to ‘Mark’, who went above and beyond to help me zero in my new red-dot sight. He was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, offering plenty of useful tips to improve my aim and overall accuracy. His professionalism and enthusiasm really made the experience stand out. The entire staff here is top-notch — friendly, professional, and always ready to help. It’s clear they care about both safety and customer satisfaction. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this range to anyone looking for a great place to shoot.
*IMPORTANT INFO* So, I’ve used this range for many years, but only for pistol work. Recently I went in to zero a new rifle build so I called First to confirm that they had at least a 25 yard lane. The gentleman was very nice and informed me that they did so I packed up all of my gear and got all my ballistic math dialed in for this very small, very specific task. When I arrived at the range they informed me that they are only opening one side of the range at 10 yards. I told them I just talked to somebody there and they informed me that you had a 25 yard! which is true, but it was not open… It was not undergoing any kind of maintenance or anything they just would not open it… Bottom line is, there was a miscommunication And they would not budge on making it right or giving me any kind of information on when it might be open. This range has always been really good with very kind and helpful staff. But fair warning if you’re going there for any kind of long gun work you should definitely call ahead and be VERY SPECIFIC to your needs. Unfortunately in my case it was an hour drive… so needless to say I was pretty bent out of shape about this. It would’ve been really nice if They could’ve been a little flexible and let me put 10 shots down range. I mean this is a shooting range, correct?… they should probably have more than a 10 yard option During the week. But, it is what it is… like I said before this is a great range with quality lanes and friendly helpful staff. If Smokin barrel is reading this it might behoove you to come up with an option for customers like myself. Maybe being able to schedule? Possibly a little flexibility? Or just have one long gun lane open? It makes sense to me.

This place is amazing. My husband and I did a two hour lesson with Donald. He’s an excellent instructor, he was patient and very knowledgeable. I felt much more confident shooting after getting to work with him. He’s also funny, which is a plus. We liked it so much we did another lesson. The shop is clean and the employees have all been friendly. Would recommend to everyone!
First time visiting this place and I have only rave reviews! The people from the store to the range were nice and not uptight lole some places. The whole store and range was very clean and well stocked. I tried the range and the desk person was very polite and informative. The process was smoth and prices for extras (targets, safety glasses) were all very reasonable ($2 for a large target is not bad when you didnt bring one). The computerized targets to go set distances was fun. Felt very safe and enjoyed the hour. Will be back for sure!
As someone totally new to firearms, walking into a gun shop and range for the first time was a little intimidating—but Smokin’ Barrel completely changed that for us. From the moment my wife and I walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and—most importantly—knowledgeable. They treated me with respect and genuine kindness, never once talking down to me or brushing off my beginner questions. Instead, they patiently walked me through everything I needed to know, made great recommendations, and created an atmosphere that felt supportive and safe. A huge shoutout to Don, our training instructor—this man is truly one of a kind! Don combines deep expertise with patience and persistence in a way that’s rare to find. He meets you where you’re at and helps guide you forward with confidence. No pressure, no ego—just clear, encouraging instruction that makes you believe you can do this. Whether you’re nervous, uncertain, or just starting from scratch, Don has a way of breaking things down and giving you the tools to improve. With the right amount of time and practice, there’s no doubt he’ll help you hit your goals. If you’re new to firearms or just looking for a top-tier experience, Smokin’ Barrel is where you want to be. Friendly staff, excellent training, and a judgment-free environment that’s built for learning and growing and most importantly, fun! I’m beyond grateful I found this place and that we have become regulars! 🔥🎯
