The day I went was a Saturday. There were plenty of opened spots when I arrived and started shooting. Before I know it, it was packed, and then a large number of people shooting 12 gauge shotguns in a small indoor range, then another guy shooting his rifle at 10 yards, very confusing lol. I eventually get a tap on my shoulder that I have 10 mins left and I have barely shot through 200 rounds. The range hangers are beat to crap and you can barely fit the smaller targets on it. You can tell this range is more geared towards people that want to rent guns and just try shooting for the first time and use the huge paper people size targets. The blockers between stalls aren’t tall enough and I took probably 40-50 casings to the head from the guy next to me shooting, I came home with 4 casings in the front pocket of my hoodie lol. I know it’s just par for the course and those things will happen when shooting but when it was literally raining down on my hat I had to laugh. The computer screens are nice but they worked only 50% of the time and I’d have to push forward the unit hanging down from the ceiling every other time to get the machine to send out the target. It was packed with a lot of what seemed to be people very new to guns and there were almost more range attendants than people inside the shooting lanes and it became very packed inside where I had some other random guy watching his girlfriend almost shoulder to shoulder while I’m shooting in my stall. Maybe it was just the day I chose to go down, but that was my experience for the first time there. I think on a Wednesday night you might have more regulars and less crowds and more time to shoot and that would drastically change the experience. The range attendants were very nice and helpful. I am going to give it a second chance on a different day.
On their website, it clearly states: “We also provide free instructional lessons with the purchase of a gun.” I went in, purchased an $800 handgun, and returned the following week to pick it up. When I asked how to schedule my free lesson, I was told, “We don’t do that anymore, but come in anytime for a free hour of range time.” Not ideal, but fine—I was still satisfied with that offer. A couple of weeks later, I came back on a Saturday morning to use that free range time, and was told, “We don’t do that on Saturdays, and you have to use it on the day you pick up your gun.” At this point, the experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. Their website still advertises the free lesson—over a month after they told me they no longer offer it. That’s disappointing because most of the staff is actually pretty cool. I even had another gun on hold that I planned to purchase that same day. Instead, I walked away without buying it—and likely without buying several future guns from them—because they don’t stand by their word and decided to charge me for range time that was promised to be free. Where I’m from, if you say something, you honor it. I also have multiple friends about to get their pistol licenses, and I’ll be steering them to other shops and ranges in the area. Thankfully, we have plenty of options.

After almost 50 years (am I really that old??) I finally took my Dad's 22 rifle to do some shooting. I brought it to another local shop. They cleaned the barrel and nothing else (yet told me it is good to go). I brought it to the Islip range with my daughter, tried it, and it consistently jammed. Fortunately, they could see how disappointing this was and so we got a loaner from them - and had a fantastic time!! I left my rifle with them to be repaired (I wrote the previous shop's charge as a "learning experience"). They called when it was ready and showed me the broken firing pin and how now is was cleaned, oiled and ready to fire 🔥 I'm going this morning to try it out for the first time and have no doubt it will be a wonderful time. Thanks to Stan and all the folks here who were so understanding and accommodating. Looking forward to moving ahead with my new "retirement hobby" 👍 If you need a place to go for help (especially if you are a newbie) this is the place for you!🏆🥇
Great experience. It was my first time at this location. They had guns that you could try out and ammo that you could buy there. We brought our own equipment. A worker came over to help adjust someone in our group and gave them pointers on how to be a little more accurate and safe in shooting for their first time. The staff was very knowledgeable and the value for what we paid was worth it. I’ve been told this location is much better than the one in Nassau County so we drove all the way out here for it.
This was my first time at the range, and it was an adrenaline rush of pure excitement! At first, I was a little nervous about shooting, but as I got into it and started doing rounds, I became more comfortable. The rifle was pretty heavy, and the recoil gave my shoulder a jolt, so that’s something to be aware of. But overall, I absolutely loved the experience—it was an incredible feeling!
