I had an amazing day at Top Gun range. I'm from New Zealand so this kind of experience is not available there.
Gene Garner was the instructor. Gene is ex-military so I knew I was in good hands.
I told him I want to shoot guns. He asked what types I have in mind. I gave an uneducated answer. He then suggested four models I could start with.
First up, a Glock handgun. After a short induction course we went out to the range. Gene stood behind me while I let off a few rounds. He was happy enough for me to do it by myself.
I let off about 100 rounds and it was amazing. Never seen a Glock in real life, never held a Glock and here I was shooting one.
The next three guns were automatic weapons so Gene stood behind me and and coached.
M16, M4 and a German HK were the weapons of choice.
Again I had only seen these weapons in movies so to hold one and shoot one was the biggest thrill ever. The power behind these weapons. I could feel the muzzle blast. The noise they made. My heart racing. The smell of gunpowder. All my senses engaged. What a day! 😎👍
Gene is a cool dude and a very good instructor.
He is relatable and kept me engaged. I am going back for another session before I fly back to New Zealand.
Highly recommend this place (especially if you're a Kiwi or an Aussie)

It was our first time shooting, and we absolutely loved the experience! We used a Henry Arms gun with .38 Special calibers — it was so much fun, and we enjoyed it to the core. A big shoutout to Rene Hinojosa, who was super helpful with his guidance and suggestions throughout. We’ll definitely be coming back again for more shooting fun!
Had a wonderful experience at Top Gun. Twas easy to sign up snd get to shooting. They have a huge selection of guns, knives, ect. Wick was my instructor and a good one at that. He was knowledgable, calm, confident and provided clear concise instructions. He suggested a firearm that was the right fit and feel for the little experience I had. The range is clean (casings were swept up every two mins) and accessible, zero hazards were observed. Will return when next in Houston.
Awesome experience at this location! Easy to check in we were attended very quickly and everyone was welcoming. Went there with my brothers who are more experienced with using guns (me not so much) but Gene was the instructor that joined us since we were using big guns 💪🏻 He made it feel very safe and made me feel confident in holding/firing what we had chosen. Definitely recommend coming to this location and asking for Gene! If you see this once again Thank you! 😎😊
